Troubleshooting

Find the next useful check when setup, publication, or delivery fails.

Receiver verification fails

Check that the destination is public HTTPS and does not redirect. Install the current signing secret, restart the receiver, verify the raw request signature, and return the signed challenge proof. An empty 200 response does not pass. Wait 30 seconds before another verification attempt and respect Retry-After.

No delivery appears

Check the publication receipt's delivery_count. The endpoint must have been enabled, eligible, and subscribed to the exact event type when publication occurred. There are no wildcard subscriptions. After correcting setup, publish a new event with a new idempotency key.

Signatures fail

Use the endpoint signing secret, not the project API key. Verify the original body bytes before JSON parsing or reserialization. Check the timestamp, secret decoding, supported signatures, and constant-time comparison against the working receiver.

Publication returns a conflict

An idempotency key can only be reused for the exact same event body. Retry an uncertain publication with its original serialized body and original key. Use a new key for a new business event.

The API returns 401 or the wrong project

Check the configured API origin and locally stored project API key. Read GET /v1/project-status and compare project_id before making any changes. Do not substitute the documentation site's host for the API host.

Replay is unavailable

Replay requires a completed successful or failed delivery and an enabled, verified endpoint with a signing secret. Read the current delivery cycle before requesting replay. A changed cycle requires reviewing fresh state.

A secret request timed out

Inspect endpoint state before retrying. Secret provisioning also rotates an existing secret, and disclosed values cannot be retrieved later. Do not automatically repeat the action or rotate another secret during the grace period.

The receiver accepted an event but work ran twice

Webhook delivery is at least once. Deduplicate durable business operations by Webhook-Id, including across retries and manual replay. The reference inbox may legitimately contain duplicate receipts.
