Receiver security

Rotate signing secrets

Replace a receiver credential while accounting for the overlap period.

One-time disclosure

Generating or rotating an endpoint signing secret reveals its new value once. Save it directly in your receiver environment or secret manager. Existing secrets cannot be retrieved from Cascadehook.

Rotation overlap

The previous signing secret remains valid for five minutes. During that window, the reference receiver accepts a supported signature matching its configured secret. Install the new secret and restart or reload the receiver before the overlap ends.

Another rotation during the existing grace period returns a conflict.

Verification state

Secret rotation does not automatically disable traffic or clear verification. Changing the destination URL does clear verification and disable delivery. Inspect endpoint state after a change rather than treating those operations as equivalent.

Uncertain responses

The secret provisioning action is also the rotation action. If a request times out, inspect the endpoint before retrying. Blindly repeating it can rotate a secret you did not successfully save.
