Authentication and project identity

Use a project API key and verify which project it authorizes.

Bearer authentication

Create a project API key in the dashboard and store its one-time value in a server environment or secret manager as CASCADEHOOK_API_KEY.

Authorization: Bearer YOUR_PROJECT_API_KEY

Project keys grant broad project access, including endpoint and API key management. Development and Live labels currently have the same permissions. Choose a suitable expiry and share keys only with trusted integrations.

Check the project first

Call GET /v1/project-status before making changes. Compare the returned project_id to the intended project and inspect suspension state. Stop if the identity differs or authentication fails.

JSON requests

Use Content-Type: application/json when a JSON body is required. Management bodies are limited to 64 KiB; event envelopes are limited to 256 KiB.

Actions documented as accepting an empty body must receive an empty body, not an empty JSON object. Consult the operation reference before sending a request.

Credential handling

Keep API keys out of frontend bundles, source control, logs, documentation URLs, and chat. A receiver signing secret is a separate credential used to authenticate incoming webhook requests.

API key rotation retains the previous credential for five minutes. Save the new key, update its consumers, and observe the overlap before revoking old access.
